FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: 29th August 2018 2nd Skin Microbiome Congress. |
UK Cooperative keynote speakers in San Francisco
World leading research to be revealed at Global Skin Microbiome Congress
UK skin microbiome pioneers and Cooperative enterprise JooMo Ltd will be unveiling their latest ground-breaking skin microbiome research to a worldwide audience on 13th September 2018.
Working in partnership with the Medical University of Graz, JooMo are involved in an ongoing study to determine whether everyday cosmetics really are behind the enormous rise in problem skin in the western world.
Their trials show how high street cosmetics appear to maintain the depleted western microbiome, while third wave microbiome friendly products like JooMo greatly increase skin microbiome biodiversity (biodiversity being the definitive measure of skin health).
Everyday cosmetics were also shown to have more of a de-moisturising effect on the skin, a key reason why skin becomes damaged. Again by contrast, third wave technology in JooMo meant that it maintained the most moisture on the skin.
Kit Wallen Russell – research coordinator and lead author of the peer-reviewed 2017 paper Meta Analysis of the Skin Microbiome‘ – describes the significance of these results:
“The terrifying rise in problem skin has led many to speculate whether regular contact with everyday cosmetics are a major contributor to this problem.”
“These results, coupled with other complementary research, are now suggesting a definitive link.”
Kit goes on to say that this should not really come as any great surprise – after all, the food industry has been restricting the use of additives for many decades:
“Cosmetics consumers are finally cottoning on to the fact that covering their bodies with harsh unfamiliar chemicals every day probably isn’t a good idea.”
“These results show how the cosmetics industry must urgently introduce the same safety standards as the food industry, including the ending of misleading labelling and the severe restriction in the use of chemical additives.”
JooMo are continuing their working partnership with the Medical University of Graz, and the next phase of the ongoing skin microbiome study will continue in the coming weeks.
